How much does home organizing cost in Chicago? Published local prices include $75 per hour with a two-hour minimum at Room Rescue Chicago, $260 for a three-hour session at Orderly Arrangements, and $760 for a four-hour session with two organizers at Chicago Spaces in Order. These prices cover different amounts of work, so comparing hourly rates alone can be misleading.
Published Home Organizing Prices in Chicago
Professional organizers use different billing methods. Some charge by the hour, others sell organizing sessions, and full-service companies may charge separately for planning and materials.
Here are five published local examples:
Room Rescue Chicago
$75/hour
Two-hour minimum
Chaos to Order
$90/hour standard; $110/hour senior
Individual organizer rates
Orderly Arrangements
$260 per 3-hour session
Complimentary consultation before the session
Chicago Spaces in Order
$760 per 4-hour session
Two organizers; separate $145 on-site project assessment
Wellnest
$170/hour
Two-organizer Full Service Organizing team; Plan & Prep Fee starts at $400
These are individual published provider rates, not a Chicago-wide average or directly comparable quotes.
The important difference is not simply which company has the lowest number. A three-hour appointment, a four-hour appointment with two organizers, and a full-service project with separate planning charges are different purchases.
Hourly Rates vs. Organizing Packages: What Are You Paying For?
An hourly rate looks straightforward until minimum appointments and additional services are considered.
Room Rescue Chicago publishes $75 per hour with a two-hour minimum. That makes $150 the minimum scheduled organizing charge at its published rate, before applicable extras.
Chicago Spaces in Order uses a different model: a four-hour session with two organizers costs $760. The company also requires a separate $145 on-site project assessment before organizing sessions. Based on those published fees, an assessment plus one session would total $905 before other applicable charges.
That doesn't mean the second company is doing the same job at a higher price. A two-person team delivers eight combined organizer-hours during a four-hour visit.
Some companies also offer discounts for extended projects. Orderly Arrangements publishes $260 per three-hour session for sessions 1–4, with discounted session rates starting at session five under its stated conditions.
When comparing offers, ask how many people will work, how long they'll be on-site, and exactly what is included.
What Does a Professional Home Organizer Actually Do?
A home organizer helps you decide where belongings belong and create systems that make a space easier to use.
Common projects include reorganizing kitchen cabinets and pantries, improving closet storage, sorting home-office paperwork, organizing playrooms, preparing for downsizing, and unpacking after a move.
The work may include sorting, decluttering, categorizing items, planning storage layouts, labeling, and coordinating donations.
But home organizing is not the same as house cleaning. Organizing a kitchen pantry does not automatically include scrubbing appliances or providing a full cleaning service.
The scope also varies between companies. One organizer may work alongside you to make decisions about belongings, while a full-service team may handle product sourcing, layout planning, and installation.
Clarify those expectations before comparing prices.
What Can Increase the Total Cost?
The number of rooms matters, but the amount of work within each room is often more important.
A lightly cluttered bedroom closet may need less work than a packed garage, complicated home office, or whole-home downsizing project.
Other important factors include:
- Team size: Two or more organizers may work simultaneously, changing both the hourly team cost and the project's duration.
- Planning and consultation: Some consultations are complimentary; others are billed separately.
- Storage products: Bins, drawer organizers, shelving, and specialty containers may not be included.
- Additional services: Shopping, donation transportation, extensive travel, and custom design may have separate fees.
For example, Wellnest publishes a starting Plan & Prep Fee of $400 in addition to its two-organizer hourly rate for Full Service Organizing. Chaos to Order states that parking and supplies are additional costs.
These are company-specific policies, not automatic fees charged by every organizer in Chicago.
How Much Should You Budget for a Closet or Kitchen?
There isn't one reliable flat price for every closet or kitchen.
Instead of assuming a room takes a fixed number of hours, describe the work involved.
For a closet, explain whether you need help sorting clothing, creating a storage system, selecting containers, or reorganizing several wardrobes.
For a kitchen, clarify whether the project covers one pantry, every cabinet and drawer, or unpacking and organizing an entire newly occupied kitchen.
If the organizer works in sessions, ask what can realistically be completed during one appointment and whether additional visits may be needed.
A useful estimate should explain the planned work, expected time, number of organizers, and any separate product or consultation charges.
Before Hiring a Professional Organizer
Before accepting a quote, confirm five things:
- Is the price for one organizer or a team?
- Is there a minimum session length?
- Is the initial consultation or planning included?
- Who pays for organizing products and shopping time?
- What happens if the project requires additional hours?
These questions make it easier to compare services that use different pricing structures.
